Overview
Gomag is one of the most-used e-commerce SaaS solutions in Romania, with more than 14 years of experience in e-commerce and over 1,700 active online stores. Their team helps shop owners outsource the technical side of launching an online store — so a store owner gets a fully functional shop in just 2 days, no developer needed.
Cloud-based e-commerce SaaS Gomag supports over 1,700 online stores with the help of Bunnyshell. They decided it was time to build and migrate to a more efficient, scalable infrastructure so they could grow without constraints.
Gomag's Daily Challenges
Melding together all e-commerce functionalities for millions of customers into a unified infrastructure comes with a set of daily technical challenges:
- Long release cycles
- Bottlenecks in staging and pre-production
- Zero-downtime deployments
- Disaster recovery mechanism
- Periodical patching
In order to overcome these challenges, Gomag added more developer resources but quickly realized that developers spent over 20% of their time managing environments as opposed to writing code.
Gomag needed a solution that could automate infrastructure and various environment-related tasks (dev, stage, prod).
The Solution: Stay Lean, Release Faster, Grow Rapidly
Bunnyshell's Environment-as-a-Service (EaaS) made it easy to replicate their production environment, move it to another cloud vendor, automatically create cloud-based ephemeral environments with every pull request, tear them down with every push, mix-and-match any service needed, and keep environments up to date automatically.
A Complex Architecture, Automated
Gomag had a complex architecture that included HTTP reverse proxies, workers, query proxies, web servers, and multiple databases going through multiple load balancers. Their production environment also supported hundreds of domains, each with its own auto-renewal SSL certificate. That, together with multiple caching layers, needed to be replicated for production scalability. Multiple workers spread across dev, staging, and 1,000+ customers meant CPU autoscaling with different configurations for development and production.
With Bunnyshell's EaaS, creating additional development, staging, or production environments was automated — freeing up developer and DevOps resources for more critical tasks.
Production-like ephemeral environments helped developers produce better code quality, streamlining the release process and leading to a lower rate of rollback. Gomag could release smaller pieces of code faster and more frequently. Bunnyshell delivered a developer-native experience for Gomag's team to get code from their mind to an environment, without disrupting their work.

Outcome: Accelerated Time to Value
Minimal time spent on infrastructure-related tasks freed up 30 additional hours per developer, per month, for shipping code. The release process shifted from one deploy per month to an average of 10 deploys per day. And a highly scalable infrastructure that seamlessly handles sudden spikes in traffic and order volume drove 22% additional revenue.
